🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1962, a bright object with a fire tail was observed near Santa Barbara, California. Witnesses reported a white body with a reddish flame-like tail that disappeared rapidly toward the ground. No sound was heard and the observation lasted less than 30 seconds. Although several explanations were considered, such as balloons or aircraft, no definitive conclusion was reached.
The description and behavior of the object partially matched that of a meteor, but reports of it hitting water added mystery to the case. Three civilians and military personnel observed it from different locations, including the control tower at Vandenberg AFB. Weather conditions were clear, supporting visibility of the phenomenon. Despite the investigation, the final report concluded that a positive identification could not be made.
