🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A witness in Hyattsville, Maryland, reported in 1952 having observed a luminous object with a faint orange tail and a green glow, moving rapidly westward. The testimony describes an object the size of a football, appearing to descend at low altitude. Another witness confirmed seeing it and identified it as a shooting star. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded it was likely a meteor. The case was recorded under Project 10073, where multiple sighting reports were evaluated.
The object's description generated some controversy due to its size and color, but later analyses pointed to a natural explanation. This type of report was common during the era, when UFO sightings were frequent and often hard to classify without photographic or radar evidence. The final report indicates that insufficient data was available for a definitive evaluation, but the possibility of an unknown object was dismissed.
