🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1962, a citizen of Hutchison, Kansas, reported an unidentified flying object that appeared the size of a dime and was yellow in color. The witness, a sober man with basic education, observed the object for 10 minutes. The UFO made no noise, moved erratically, and traveled northeast. According to the report, its behavior was attributed to atmospheric conditions, although the possibility of an unknown phenomenon was not ruled out.
The responsible officer, Captain Bays, received the testimony and classified it as "Echo I," a category suggesting a conventional explanation. However, the report does not provide a definitive conclusion, leaving open the possibility that the object was not correctly identified. Like many other cases from that era, this one reflects the ambiguity with which many UFO sightings were treated by military authorities.
