Summary

In July 1962, a group of five civilians observed an unidentified object near Kankakee, Illinois. The object appeared as two orange fire cones with a tail six to seven times their length. It measured about 3 by 12 inches and moved in a straight line for 15 minutes before disappearing on the horizon. Observers used binoculars and confirmed it was not a falling star or a jet. Despite the detailed description, authorities concluded there was insufficient data to evaluate the phenomenon.

The official report, included in Project 10073, did not reach a clear conclusion. Conventional explanations such as balloons, aircraft or astronomical phenomena were dismissed. However, the lack of precise data on weather and wind conditions limited any further analysis. This case remains one of many in UFO history that could not be resolved with certainty.
