🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1962, an observer at Westover AFB, Massachusetts, reported an object resembling a star that flashed in four successive bursts. The object appeared at 40 degrees elevation heading toward 170 degrees, passed overhead, and disappeared at 350 degrees. The observer, a 17-year veteran of the Air Force, described it as similar to a satellite in a near-polar orbit. Despite hazy and smoky weather conditions, the object was not an aircraft and was considered a possible meteor.
The official evaluation concluded it was an astronomical meteor, but the report also notes the observer believed it could be the last stage of a satellite booster. The 100-degree arc in just 4 seconds supports the theory of a high-speed object, typical of a meteor. Although no photos or radar were recorded, the report highlights the observer's reliability and the lack of evidence contradicting his account.
