Summary

In August 1962, a witness in Newark, Ohio, observed a luminous object traveling north at a speed of approximately two degrees per second. The object was seen for about 30 seconds and disappeared above the horizon. It was described as a steady light with no changes in brightness or shape, and it left no trail or sound. The witness’s wife and two children also saw it, suggesting it was not a personal misperception. Despite efforts to gather more information, no additional responses were received, and the case was concluded as insufficient for analysis. Some experts considered the possibility that it was a high-flying jet or a satellite in decay, as the 62A Iota 2 satellite stopped functioning that same day.

The U.S. Air Force contacted the witness to obtain more details, including questionnaires for him, his wife, and another individual. However, no responses were received. In the files, it is mentioned that the object resembled an echo and its light was yellowish-white. Despite the detailed description, the phenomenon could not be conclusively identified and was archived as insufficient for evaluation.
