🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
An officer aboard the USS Durant observed an object on the morning of August 22, 1962, near the coordinates 4°12’S and 154°04’W. The object, with the brightness of a first-magnitude star, was seen for five minutes using a sextant. It moved in a straight line before disappearing behind clouds. The observation took place at dawn, with unlimited visibility and a partly cloudy sky. Despite the precision of the instrument and favorable conditions, no clear conclusion was reached about the object's nature.
Military reports failed to identify the phenomenon as a balloon, aircraft, satellite, or astronomical event. Conventional explanations were dismissed, but there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation. This case is part of a series of UFO sightings recorded by the U.S. Navy, where the lack of photographs or additional data limits any conclusive analysis.
