🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
An officer in the Pacific reported an object resembling a second magnitude star. The sighting occurred on August 23, 1962, at 06:11 UTC, and lasted about 6 minutes. The object was observed with 7x50 binoculars, moving from an azimuth of 220 degrees to 165 degrees, increasing its elevation from 20 to 56 degrees. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded it was a satellite, without further specific evaluation. The exact location of the sighting was in coordinates 07°34'S, 153°39'O, in a remote area of the Pacific Ocean.
The report did not include photographs or radar data, limiting the possibility of confirming the object's nature. However, the observers' testimony, including a watch officer and a navigator, was rated as "excellent". Although other explanations such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena were ruled out, the report did not reach a definitive conclusion. This case is part of many UFO reports that remain unsolved in military archives.
