🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1962, a UFO sighting was recorded in the Pacific Ocean near the coordinates 35.04N 144.10E. A witness reported seeing a bright object, less than the first magnitude star, for 15 minutes. The object was moving in a northerly direction, appearing at 130 degrees and disappearing at 75 degrees, with an average altitude of 10 degrees above the horizon. The weather conditions were excellent, with 20% cloud cover, allowing clear visibility. Although no photos were taken, the data aligned with the possibility that it was a satellite.
The official evaluation concluded that the object was likely a satellite, as no evidence pointed to a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon. Despite the lack of radar data or photographs, the witness's description and the object's behavior matched the characteristics of a satellite in orbit. This case was shared with several military and intelligence agencies, including the CIA, CINCPAC, and the DIA, for further analysis. Ultimately, no definitive conclusion was reached, but other conventional explanations were ruled out.
