Summary

In September 1962, multiple observers in Wisconsin and neighboring states reported an unidentified aerial phenomenon. A red object with sparks was seen reentering Earth's atmosphere, burning and exploding. Witnesses on the ground and in the air described the event, which lasted about four minutes. The main object was followed by 12 white dots that separated and disappeared to the east. Post-incident analysis suggested it could be the decay of a satellite, possibly Sputnik IV.

The object was described as red with sparks and a specific trajectory. Initially stationary, it accelerated rapidly and split into several luminous points. Aircrews could not determine its size or distance but agreed on the visual description. The clear night and lack of clouds facilitated observation, leading to multiple reports from different locations. Despite efforts, the nature of the phenomenon could not be confirmed with certainty, though a plausible explanation related to a satellite's fall was considered.
