Summary

In 1962, hikers near Priest Lake, Idaho, discovered an unusual object on the ground that they believed was a meteorite. They found it the next morning after leaving their gear in the forest, and noticed it had left a dent in the ground and charred wet trees. The object measured about 3.75 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and half an inch thick. Although it resembled a coal clinker, there were no nearby sources of coal. The observers were convinced it had fallen from the sky. The specimen was sent to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for analysis. It was assigned number 3-147 and determined to be of terrestrial origin, a common carbon-rich rock in the area. Despite this, the hikers insisted the object had no conventional explanation.
