Summary

In September 1962, a woman from Steelville, Missouri, wrote directly to President John F. Kennedy about objects landing in the woods near her home. According to her account, these objects appeared regularly around 7:40 PM, landed on trees, and caused interference on her television. The woman, who did not want her husband to know about the sightings, described the objects as large glowing balloons moving from south to west. Although she mentioned seeing two objects, she indicated one landed frequently in a specific spot in the forest. The letter, written with spelling difficulties, was considered by air force authorities and sent to investigators for analysis.

The Air Force Office of Information concluded that the sightings were likely hallucinations, attributing the TV interference to technical issues or interference from commercial aircraft. Despite the woman's insistence that the objects were not part of her known environment, the case was filed without an official response. The images she mentioned capturing on TV are not preserved, but the original letter and investigator comments suggest the incident was considered unusual but inconclusive. The testimony, though unconfirmed, adds another chapter to the history of UFO reports in the 1960s.
