🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1962, a civilian in Cato, New York, observed a bright object moving southeast. The object, with the brightness of a 4-5 magnitude star, displayed color changes, mostly red, and moved in a wavy pattern. The sighting lasted 4 to 8 minutes, though part of the flight was obscured by clouds. The witness believed the object was outside the atmosphere. Due to the lack of an exact date, investigators concluded it was likely a satellite. The apparent fluctuation was attributed to atmospheric conditions.
The witness, interested in astronomy, reported the sighting to Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Force's UFO investigation program. Although no definitive confirmation was possible, the case was classified as a probable satellite sighting. It highlights the challenges of evaluating sightings without precise data, but also the value of collecting testimonies to better understand unexplained phenomena.
