🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1962, an observer on land spotted a bright luminous object in the Atlantic, near the coordinates 60.14N 13.36W. The object, which shone like a first-magnitude star, was seen for 10 minutes and was moving toward the southeast. Although no radar contact or physical evidence was recorded, military officials concluded the phenomenon could be related to a satellite. The lack of available orbital data at the time made a more precise evaluation difficult.
The report, classified under Project 10073, was shared with multiple military and intelligence divisions. Although other explanations such as balloons or aircraft were considered, the final analysis pointed to a satellite-related explanation. This case is an example of how aerial sightings were investigated during the Cold War, in a context of high vigilance and mystery.
