A cab driver in Baltimore observed a pink object in the sky on November 7, 1962. The object appeared in the east and expanded rapidly, covering one-fifth of the sky between the east and west horizons. Despite its growing size, it maintained its shape and pink color. The observation lasted 15 minutes, which drew attention due to its unusual behavior. The report was sent to NASA and then to the Air Force, who linked it to high-altitude experiments in Wallops Island. The expansion and color were attributed to atmospheric and chemical effects.
NASA acknowledged the report and referred it to the Air Force, explaining they lacked the resources to investigate such phenomena. The case was considered part of unexplained sightings. The Air Force analysis linked it to experimental sodium launches, whose duration and behavior matched the witness's description. Although not officially confirmed, it was considered a plausible explanation.
