🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1962, an amateur astronomer in East Point, Georgia, observed a bright object near the Moon. Using a telescope with a 46.66 mm lens, the observer noticed an object that initially appeared as a bright spot against the dark background of the Moon. The object increased in brightness and turned a vivid red before moving rapidly away from the Moon. Despite the high magnification, the object did not display any known characteristics, which surprised the witness.
The observation lasted between 3 and 4 minutes, and the object was described as something that gained speed and brightness in an unusual way. Although a balloon was initially considered as a possible explanation, the object's description and behavior did not fully align with that theory. The official report concluded it could be a balloon, but the possibility of an unusual astronomical phenomenon or even an unknown object was not ruled out.
