Summary

In 1954, multiple sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were reported across Europe. These phenomena included silent, luminous objects and disc or cigar-shaped craft that defied the understanding of the time. In Norway, during an anti-aircraft exercise at Stavern, an unidentified object was observed through powerful binoculars by 50 officers and men. Described as round or slightly elliptical, silvery on top and flat underneath, it moved slowly up and down for seven minutes before disappearing at high speed. In West Germany, residents, local weather station personnel, and a night-duty officer reported seeing three "flying saucers" over Darmstadt. These objects, of a fiery yellowish-red color, alternated between hovering and darting silently for about an hour and a half. These incidents, though unconfirmed, generated growing interest in UFOs during the 1950s.

Beyond Germany, other countries such as Switzerland, France, and the UK also reported sightings. In Switzerland, even members of the Swiss Air Force reported five objects flying in formation over Lake Constance. In France, an industrial designer described a luminous, brilliant white disc over Montlucon, while in Lyon, a cigar-shaped object emitting sparks was reported. These accounts, though scattered, reflect a pattern of mystery that captured the attention of the press and authorities of the time. Despite efforts to explain these phenomena, many remained unresolved, fueling speculation about extraterrestrial intelligence or unknown natural phenomena.
