🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1962, a nurse in Schlanders, Tyrol, observed a large luminous mass falling from the sky. The witness, from his hospital room, saw the object between 5 and 7 PM on the 18th of December. He could not see the object hit the ground because a balcony wall blocked most of his view. The report suggests it could be a meteor, though the possibility of a fallen satellite was also considered. The witness even asked the local forest ranger to be alert for any traces of the object.
The letter includes newspaper clippings mentioning that the satellite "Transit 5a", launched a few days earlier, had stopped functioning. However, there was no report of it falling to Earth. The Air Force responded to the report, acknowledging interest in unidentified aerial phenomena and forwarding the case to the Foreign Technology Division. Although no definitive conclusion was reached, the case reflects the confusion and curiosity of the time regarding unidentified objects in the sky.
