🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A bright unidentified object was sighted at Forbes AFB, Kansas, on January 2, 1963. Airman Russell R. Newman, a defense technician, observed a glowing object that changed color from orange to red, increasing in brightness until it resembled a car's headlight. The object left no trail or sound and vanished in 2-3 seconds. The estimated distance was two miles, but weather conditions were poor: fog, light drizzle, and limited visibility. The report suggested it could be a meteor or a reflection of a searchlight on the fog.
The responsible officer, Lieutenant Lambert, recalled a similar phenomenon a year earlier but didn't report it. Newman thought it might be a burning plane, though none had been reported. The official assessment concluded it was likely a meteor, though the distance estimate didn't match the weather conditions. The case was filed without a definitive explanation.
