🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1963, a witness in Little Rock, Arkansas observed a saucer-shaped object with a reddish glow that alternated with brief white flashes. The object appeared and disappeared behind clouds, moving westward. The sighting lasted 15 minutes, and the witness, a local student, described the phenomenon in detail. Although initially puzzling, military authorities concluded it was aerial refueling operations involving KC-97 and B-47 aircraft. These planes were active in the area throughout the observation period, and the red glow was likely from tanker warning lights, while the white glare came from the B-47's landing lights used to position the aircraft during refueling.
The confusion was understandable, as aircraft lights could create surprising optical effects, especially at night. The planes refueling in the area performed frequent maneuvers, explaining the erratic movement of the object. Additionally, the witness noted numerous takeoffs and landings at Little Rock's airport, reinforcing the theory that this was a routine military operation. Despite the official explanation, the case remains intriguing due to the accuracy of the witness's description and the coincidence with real military activities.
