🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian observer in Greensboro, North Carolina, reported an unusual luminous object moving erratically across the sky on the night of June 14, 1963. The witness, along with a companion, saw a bright meteor followed by a point of light moving slowly eastward. Initially thought to be the running light of an aircraft, the object's movement was described as irregular, with sudden lateral shifts and inconsistent speed. It lacked the typical characteristics of known aircraft or astronomical objects, leading to uncertainty about its identity.
The official conclusion suggested the satellite ECHO I as a possible explanation, though the observed object did not fully match known satellite or weather balloon behavior. The report emphasized that the object's light intensity was comparable to the brightest stars and that its motion was erratic. Despite considering various possibilities, including aircraft and astronomical phenomena, no definitive identification was reached. The case was forwarded to Air Force Intelligence for evaluation, but no clear explanation was found.
