🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1963, an observer in Arlington Heights, Illinois, reported a white object that appeared at 30 degrees elevation heading south. The object was seen for 8 to 10 minutes and was described as "wobbling." Weather conditions showed a temperature inversion in the area, which could explain the unusual movement. Although initially thought to be a UFO, investigators concluded it was an observation of the ECHO I satellite, which was in orbit at that time. The report noted that the satellite would be west of Chicago at the time of the sighting, supporting this explanation.
The report, classified under Project 10073, was conducted by the U.S. Air Force and evaluated as a non-mysterious case. The observer, a retired engineer, did not report any photographs or radar, and the object's description was based solely on visual observation. Despite the duration of the sighting and the unusual movement of the object, investigators concluded there was no evidence of an unexplained phenomenon. This case is an example of how satellites and weather conditions can be mistaken for unidentified aerial phenomena.
