🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1963, a couple in Miami observed two objects shaped like a flat disc with a round dome on top, resembling a "Mexican hat." The witnesses described the color as a dull rusty orange, and one reported seeing a small tail section and a white, filmy exhaust trail. The objects flew side by side and performed a slight tilt maneuver that was mirrored by the other. Their size was estimated between an F-100 fighter jet and a B-47 bomber, with a speed similar to a jet in landing configuration. Although initially considered a jet aircraft, the description didn't match any known aircraft of the time.
The sighting lasted about 20 seconds before the objects leveled off and disappeared. The witnesses, young and without prior aviation experience, observed the event with the naked eye. Despite mentions of possible balloons or astronomical phenomena, investigators concluded it was an aircraft. However, the detailed and unusual description left room for doubt. The official report classified it as an aircraft, but the unconventional details suggest it could have been a notable case for the Air Force's UFO project at the time.
