Summary

In August 1963, a group of observers in Sangley Point, Philippines, reported the presence of unidentified flying objects. Approximately 25 groups of 2 to 6 objects each were observed, appearing tan-orange in color, without a defined formation, and with flickering tails. Observers used a theodolite to measure wind and estimated the objects to be traveling at 10 to 15 knots, at altitudes between 500 and 5,000 feet. Initially thought to be 500g weather balloons with flares attached, attempts to photograph them were unsuccessful. Later, a pilot confirmed the objects were hot air balloons launched during a local festival. Despite the final identification, the incident prompted an air navigation warning from military authorities.
