🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1963, an observer in Sacramento, California, reported seeing two objects in the sky: a round, white object that remained stationary, and another that circled it. The sighting occurred at 22:00 local time, and the witness used binoculars to observe the objects. Although it might initially seem unusual, astronomical data suggests that it was likely Jupiter and one of its satellites. The planet's position and that of its satellite at that time matched the witness's description, indicating that the report did not involve an unexplained phenomenon but a common astronomical observation.
The Air Force classified report includes precise coordinates and calculations supporting this explanation. Despite the observer not reporting the disappearance of the objects, which could have raised more questions, the available data is sufficient to rule out the possibility of an unidentified phenomenon. This case is an example of how UFO reports often resolve with basic astronomical knowledge and a careful review of the data.
