Summary

In September 1963, a red glowing UFO was spotted over the Pacific Ocean near the Oregon coast. The object was observed for 10 minutes, arcing directly overhead. Witnesses believed it to be a satellite, and multiple reports from an aircraft and a radar station confirmed its presence. Its brightness was so intense that it lit up the entire sky, prompting several sightings from different locations. Although initially thought to be a balloon or aircraft, the final conclusion identified it as the ECHO 1 satellite.

The exact location of the sighting was recorded as 45°22'N, 135°34'W, with the object moving east at an elevation of 30°. Several aircraft and ground stations reported the same observation, reinforcing the idea that it was a real object rather than an optical illusion. Despite the number of witnesses, there were no photographic or additional radar records confirming the object's exact nature. However, the coordination among different observers and the detailed description of the event made it a case of interest for the U.S. Air Force.
