🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1963, a citizen of Concord, North Carolina, observed a bright object in the sky moving at high speed and making no noise. Noticing it was not a regular aircraft, he wrote to the U.S. Air Force for information. The official response identified the object as the ECHO satellite, which was passing over the region at that time. Although the witness did not take photos, his sighting was recorded in an official report from Project 10073. ECHO was an inflated spherical satellite used for communication experiments and was visible to the naked eye when reflecting sunlight. The resolution of the case shows how night sightings can be mistaken for space objects.
