🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1963, a military officer in Annandale, Virginia, reported an object that crossed the sky in a 30-degree arc in just two seconds. The object, glowing with a reddish hue, appeared to oscillate and its path zigzagged. Although no photos were taken, the witness observed it at dusk, which might have enhanced its color. The description of the trajectory and behavior of the object caused some confusion, but no additional witnesses were present.
Researchers from Project Blue Book concluded it was likely a meteor. Astronomer Dr. J. Allen Hynek, a consultant to the project, noted that vapor trails can oscillate and that a reddish trail, while uncommon, is possible, especially at sunset. The calculated speed of the object, based on its movement and duration, also fit that of a meteor. Despite the clear report, the officer did not provide additional details that could confirm the object's identity.
