UFOs over Merced California 1964

Summary

In April 1964, multiple objects were detected near Merced, California, at high altitudes. Radars picked up between 6 and 12 objects following a race-track pattern. F-106s were scrambled to identify them, but could not maintain contact. Eventually, a U-2 confirmed it was a balloon. Despite efforts, pilots could not visually confirm the objects.
