🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1964, a 12-year-old boy in Clearfield, Utah, observed an object moving across the sky. He described it as a star that traveled southeast and disappeared behind the Wasatch Mountains. Army investigators reviewed the case and concluded it could have been the ECHO I satellite, which was passing through the area at that time. The match between the boy's description and the satellite's trajectory was key to this evaluation.
The official report mentions that the ECHO I satellite indeed passed over Salt Lake City around the time the boy saw it. Although no photos were taken and there were no other witnesses, the boy's detailed description and weather data confirmed that conditions were ideal for stargazing. This coincidence suggests what the boy saw was an astronomical event, not an unknown object.
