🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1964, a civilian in Orangevale, California, reported observing an unidentified flying object traveling in a straight line from north to south. The witness described it as a bright white object, star-shaped but larger than a typical star. It made no sound and disappeared to the southeast after about two and a half minutes. The report mentions a ¼ inch exhaust trail behind the object, suggesting controlled movement. Despite the detailed description, no photos were taken and no physical evidence was found.
The officer in charge concluded the object was likely the artificial satellite "Echo II," used by NASA for communication experiments. This satellite, made of polyethylene mesh, reflected sunlight and was visible from Earth. The evaluation was based on the object's behavior, trajectory, and lack of noise, all consistent with a satellite rather than a supernatural object. The official report was classified for national security reasons but was eventually declassified, allowing analysis by researchers and UFO enthusiasts.
