A 1964 report describes the observation of 10 to 12 white round objects seen from the ground in Cresco, Iowa, in a staggered formation. The witness, a 30-year-old civilian, spotted them during an astronomy trip around 4 a.m. on July 27. The objects were flying from north to south under a thunderstorm, without any visible exhaust or sound. Visibility was limited by clouds and darkness, making clear identification difficult.
The sighting lasted between 10 and 15 seconds, with the objects disappearing over the horizon. Although birds were considered as a possible explanation, the precise formation and white color didn't match typical bird behavior. No photos or physical evidence were collected, and air authorities confirmed no known aircraft activity in the area. The report concluded the cause of the sighting was unknown, leaving open the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon.
