Summary

A civilian in Klamath Falls, Oregon, reported in 1964 the observation of a bright object resembling a large fireball with rays of light descending from both sides. The witness described the object as reddish, gradually turning clear and translucent. No additional features, exhaust trail, or sound were noted, and its speed was similar to that of an aircraft. The object appeared in the west at a 45-degree elevation, flew northwest on a straight path, and faded from view at 30 degrees. The observation lasted three minutes.

The official conclusion was that the object could have been a light aircraft with landing lights on, though no data confirmed this. Weather conditions were favorable—no wind or clouds—aiding visibility. Despite the detailed description, no photos were taken and no physical evidence was found. The report suggested it could have been a weather balloon launched from Medford, Oregon, though this was not confirmed.
