🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian observer in Beavercreek, Ohio, reported a stationary object in the sky on October 30, 1964. They described a light with a rainbow-like color, blurry, and flickering, visible for 15 minutes. The sky was clear with some visible stars, and there was light fog. The object did not move or disappear during observation, and no sound was heard. The official conclusion pointed to a "mock moon" or lunar halo, an optical phenomenon caused by ice in the atmosphere. Although no photos or physical evidence were collected, the data aligned with a natural explanation.
The report includes comments from an expert suggesting the phenomenon was likely a moondog, a rare but known optical effect. The observer's location and the object's lack of movement supported this theory. Despite the ambiguity, the case was not considered an unexplained UFO.
