In 1954, multiple sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were reported across Europe, including Norway, Germany, Switzerland, and France. These accounts, collected by the CIA, reveal how civilians, military personnel, and authorities observed unusual aerial phenomena. In Norway, a round, silvery object was seen by 50 people during anti-aircraft exercises, moving slowly before disappearing at high speed. In West Berlin, "flying saucers" were frequently reported between 10 and 11 PM, described as luminous and silent objects with unusual movements. In Switzerland, even members of the Air Force reported formations of flying objects over Lake Constance. These incidents, though unverified, sparked curiosity and discussion during the time.
The testimonies also included detailed descriptions of unusual shapes, such as glowing cigars and bright disks. In Lyon, a man reported seeing a cigar-shaped object emitting sparks, while in central France, an industrial designer described a white disk that vanished after a few seconds. In the Vernon area, a young man observed a formation of five objects, including a "cigar" from which flying saucers detached. These sightings, though not always detected by radar, highlight how UFOs generated intrigue and mystery in the 1950s, a time of intense aerial and space activity.
