Satellite ECHO 1 observation in 1964

Summary

In November 1964, a U.S. Air Force officer reported a bright light in the sky over the coordinates 33°55'N 166°02'E. The observation was made from the USCGC Matagorda and lasted several minutes. The object was seen at a 45-degree elevation and moving south. Although it might initially seem like an unexplained phenomenon, later analysis concluded it was the ECHO 1 satellite, which was in the correct position to be observed at that time. This case is an example of how UFO reports often have rational explanations once carefully analyzed.
