🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1965, a witness in Altavista, Virginia, reported seeing a bright object that appeared and disappeared erratically over two consecutive nights. The observation lasted an hour in total, with flashes visible for 3 to 10 seconds. The object had no defined shape, only a luminous point moving around aircraft involved in refueling operations. The witness, a 47-year-old woman, described the phenomenon clearly and rationally, lending credibility to the report. Although the possibility of a natural phenomenon or an aircraft was considered, the official conclusion pointed to an aerial refueling operation.
The report includes weather data and flight paths, indicating that the area was common for nighttime refueling operations. Although there was no physical evidence or photographs, the analysis of air traffic and the object's characteristics suggested it could have been a military aircraft during a refueling maneuver. However, the unusual nature of the movement and the absence of noise or clear shape left room for doubt.
