🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian reported in 1965 a bright object moving across the sky over Landover Hills, Maryland, heading east. The witness described it as a star-like object that suddenly vanished after 10 to 15 seconds. Initially dismissed as a star or satellite, the sighting gained more attention when the observer learned of a similar event over Antarctica. The connection between the two events was speculated but never confirmed.
The Air Force concluded the object was likely the Echo I satellite, which was in orbit at the time. However, uncertainty about whether the report used standard time or daylight saving time left some ambiguity. Regardless, the report suggests the object was a common satellite that disappeared as it entered Earth’s shadow.
