🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A woman from Trenton, Missouri, reported in 1965 having seen a bright object in the sky that appeared three times the size of the moon. The object appeared in the northeast, so bright it hurt her eyes and gave the impression that the sky was on fire. She observed it for 10 minutes, describing how it rolled, jerked, and sent flames upward. Despite no other witnesses, the woman insisted it was not the sun, even though her son suggested otherwise. The Air Force concluded the phenomenon was a refraction of the rising sun, explaining the object was nothing more than an optical illusion caused by the sun's position.
The Air Force evaluated the observation as an astronomical event, attributing it to the refraction of the sun in the atmosphere. Although the witness insisted it was not sunrise, the data matched the time and direction of the sun on the day of the sighting. The official letter responded politely, reinforcing the solar explanation and noting no other similar reports were received in the area. Despite the witness's insistence, the official explanation remained firm, leaving no room for more mysterious interpretations.
