🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1965, four witnesses in Bangor, Maine observed four dull silver, circular objects. While watching the lighting displays at the State Fair, they noticed the objects flying in a diamond formation. The objects initially moved south, then three turned east while one continued south. The report suggests the objects might have been reflections of the fair lights on the exhaust haze from two aircraft that had just taken off from Dow Air Force Base. The evaluation concluded no unexplained phenomena, attributing the sighting to atmospheric conditions and visual reflections.
The witnesses, railroad engine men, reported the incident during the night. The weather was clear with excellent visibility and no unusual phenomena. The investigation included radar and local authorities, but no other aircraft were in the area. The official explanation pointed to the possibility that reflections of the lights on the aircraft exhaust explained the appearance of the objects. Despite the conclusion, the case remains an interesting example of how natural phenomena can generate seemingly unexplained UFO sightings.
