🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1965, two teenagers in Palos Verdes, California, observed a round object with flashing red, white, and blue lights. They saw it through a telescope and noted it moving rapidly back and forth between the peninsula and Catalina Island. The report, part of Project 10073, concluded it might be an astronomical phenomenon related to Mars, though more data was requested for confirmation. The witnesses estimated the object was 18-20 miles away and moving faster than any known aircraft.
The case was initially deemed insufficient for a full evaluation, so the observer was asked to complete an additional form. Despite no photos or physical evidence, the witnesses insisted the object had no conventional explanation. An official letter from Project Blue Book, led by Major Hector Quintanilla, thanked the observer and requested more details. The case remains an example of how the U.S. military handled UFO sightings in the 1960s.
