🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1965, a witness in Far Rockaway, New York, reported a bright object that appeared larger and closer than a typical shooting star. The object was observed for about one second and described as glowing like an electric light. Although initially considered a possible meteor, the U.S. Air Force requested expert analysis to rule out other explanations.
The Air Force forwarded the report to Dr. J. Allen Hynek, a civilian consultant on unidentified flying objects. Hynek, known for his work in classifying UFO sightings, was tasked with determining whether the object could be a meteor or if further investigation was needed. This case illustrates how even brief and seemingly common events can generate scientific interest and be reviewed by experts in the field.
