🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1965, a witness in Alden, Michigan, observed a luminous object in the sky that varied in color between red, white, and green. The object, which appeared to be the size of an average star, was seen for about 5 to 6 minutes. Although initially thought to be an unknown phenomenon, the investigation concluded it was the Echo II satellite. This satellite was in the observed area at the time, and its movement matched the witness's description. Additionally, a photograph of the object was taken using Kodachrome film, though only part of the negative showed images.
The Air Force investigated the case after receiving three civilian calls reporting sightings. Although there were no radar confirmations, satellite data and the object's description supported the conclusion that it was not a UFO, but a satellite in orbit. The responsible officer, Major Bingham, coordinated with experts to verify the object's identity and sent the photographic negative for analysis. Ultimately, the case was closed as a satellite sighting.
