Summary

In November 1965, a witness in Dallas, Texas, observed a bright object with a reddish halo in the sky. The object, described as egg-shaped or oval, appeared as large as a large aircraft. It remained stationary for an extended period, and the witness insisted it was neither a star nor the moon. The sighting occurred at an elevation of 40 degrees, oriented east of Dallas. The witness, a civilian, seemed sincere but unsure when describing the phenomenon.

Weather conditions were favorable, with a visibility of 10 miles and no thunderstorms. A weather balloon had been launched near Carswell AFB, but no radar contact confirmed its presence. Although the responsible officer suggested it might have been a balloon, the witness did not identify it as such. The report was sent to several Air Force units and the DIA, but no definitive conclusion was reached about the nature of the object.
