In 1965, the CIA considered a request to declassify the "Report of the Scientific Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects." Instead of releasing the original report, an unclassified version was prepared that omitted names and organizations. Although this version was approved for release, no permission was obtained from the original participants. The panel members themselves only agreed to the release of an edited summary. The CIA emphasized that the panel was not to be linked to them and that no names of participants should be listed in any unclassified version.
The letter, signed by Karl H. Weber, highlights the CIA's caution in handling sensitive UFO information. Despite partial declassification, the agency avoided any mention of its involvement in the project. This document reveals how authorities managed UFO-related information, balancing transparency with secrecy.
