🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In March 1966, six witnesses in Orfordville, Wisconsin, observed an object that initially appeared to be a balloon. However, its behavior was unusual: it moved against the wind, climbed northward, and then returned to its original position, repeating the maneuver several times. The object was round, bright, and about the size of a 50-cent piece. Despite detailed descriptions, authorities concluded it could be a balloon, though they couldn’t confirm it due to a lack of physical or photographic evidence. The observation lasted around 30 minutes, and witnesses even used binoculars to try to identify it.
The Air Force responded that the information provided was insufficient for a conclusive evaluation and requested more data. The official report, part of Project Blue Book, didn’t rule out a natural phenomenon but also didn’t offer a definitive explanation. This case reflects the difficulty authorities faced in classifying unidentified aerial phenomena, especially when there was no physical evidence or consistent testimonies.
