Summary

In May 1966, an officer at Condon AFS in Oregon reported seeing three bright lights appearing on the northern horizon. The lights, initially white and turning red, remained stationary for an hour without apparent movement. The witness used binoculars and a rifle scope to observe the phenomenon, but no photos or physical evidence were obtained. The air base requested additional information from the officer, but the initial data was insufficient for a conclusive evaluation.

After further investigation, the officer concluded that the lights were likely vehicle headlights and tail lights on a newly opened road in the mountains 100 miles away. This finding explained the persistence of the lights and their alignment with a reference line drawn on his window. Although the initial report was considered suspicious, the terrestrial explanation satisfactorily resolved the mystery.
