Summary

In July 1966, several witnesses in Omaha, Nebraska, reported seeing a bright object in the sky. The sightings occurred between the 13th and 14th of July, and witnesses described the object as moving rapidly and, in some cases, exploding. Although initially intriguing, authorities and astronomers concluded it was a bright meteor or fireball. Most witnesses did not observe typical UFO characteristics, leading to the dismissal of the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon. The investigation included contacts with the American Meteor Society, who confirmed it was a natural event.

The official report included testimonies from seven observers, although one was considered unreliable due to inconsistencies in the data. Despite this, the other six agreed on the object's description and trajectory, reinforcing the theory that it was a meteoritic event. The duration of the event, estimated by some to be over 10 seconds, was considered exaggerated by experts, who noted this is common in fireball observations. Ultimately, the case was classified as a normal astronomical event and not as an unidentified flying object sighting.
