🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A couple in Wilmette, Illinois, reported a bright object in the sky in August 1966. While preparing for bed, they observed an object that flickered with red and green flashes. Using binoculars, they noticed a green and red dome-like shape. Later that morning, they saw three groups of very bright objects. The investigator concluded these were astronomical objects such as Capella, Jupiter, Venus, and Mars, whose brightness and position matched the sighting. The appearance of multiple objects was due to light diffraction through the window screen.
The analysis determined the phenomenon was explained by optical and astronomical effects. The binoculars and window screen created optical illusions, and the planets in conjunction explained the multiple bright objects. The witnesses hadn't considered these factors, but when tested with airplane lights and street lamps, they recognized the similar effect. The report concludes there was no evidence of an unidentified object, but rather a misinterpretation of natural phenomena.
