Summary

In September 1966, multiple witnesses in Alabama and neighboring states reported a luminous object that appeared to grow in size. One described it as a bright blue comet approaching directly, while others mentioned blue-green colors with a visible tail. The object gradually faded, leaving a lingering streak of light. Later investigations revealed it coincided with a launch from Wallops Island, where barium and copper oxide payloads created artificial clouds. These clouds initially appeared green with hints of red, then turned blue and elongated, explaining the sightings.
